  • Did you know that the Placement Facilitators are not allowed to have outside consultants go
through your resident's personal files without your consent?
  • Did you know that this is being done without you knowing it. Strangers are going through your
resident's files.  This is a violation of the Guardian Act and the Privacy Act. The government
says they are above both the Guardian Act and the Privacy Act, but the fact is they are not.
  • Did you know that the staff are the ones who should be writing the personal plans? The staff
are the key ones who are least involved.  The Placement Facilitators are hiring outside
consultants to do the HRC staff's jobs.  HRC staff would not have to go through a lay-off.
Families - say no to the outside consultants.
Community Living - at HRC

Did you know that Community Living said that this place was a terrible place to put anyone
to live.  Did you know that they say the hallways are dark, dingy and depressing, yet the
hallways are filled with colorful artwork.  Did you know that when these statements were
made, that the Community Living spokesperson, had not seen HRC in over 30 years.
Did you know that when they visited, they were amazed at what we have at HRC, so much
so that Community Living is now using our place for the beach program and camp
programs - a place they use to consider a terrible place for anyone.

Perhaps the government needs to re-think about what they are doing and consider our
plan that will expand these services to all of community living to use!

The Minister of Community and Social Services has announced plans to
close Huronia Regional Centre, home to people with developmental
disabilities, many of whom have multiple diagnoses and severe problems
that cannot be met in the community.

The closing Huronia Regional Centre will have a devastating impact on
residents with developmental disabilities, their families, the developmental
services sector and the economies of the local communities.

Ontario could use the professional staff and facilities of Huronia Regional
Centre to extend specialized services, support and professional training to
many more clients who live in the community, in partnership with families
and community agencies.

WE want to keep Huronia Regional Centre, home to people with
developmental disabilities open, and to transform them into ‘Centres of
Excellence’ to provide specialized services and support to Ontarians with
developmental needs, no matter where they live
