Dear Madame:                                      Re: Closing Huronia Regional Centre (HRC)

I am a brother of Kathy Macpherson, a resident at HRC. Over the last 6 months she has been rushed to the
hospital 5 times for bowel obstructions.  Because of the care and alertness of the staff her life has been
saved. At the centre, she is watch 24 hours a day.  When she is at the hospital, one of the staff from the
Centre is with her.  Kathy knows all the people that take care of her and as well her Doctor who has been
with her for many years. She lives with 5 other people in their apartment and they have been together for
most of her time that she has been at HRC. This is her family now, they know Kathy, and they know Kathy's
favorite chair and they all know their home. They have a least two staff members watching over them at all
times.

Why does your party want to destroy the only things these people have? In Group Homes Kathy or her
friends will not get the attention they need, nor will they have the doctors that have looked after them all
their lives.

These people have special needs when it comes medical attention and the hospital in Orialla is well aware of
their special needs and care for them with compassion.

Come up with me and my sister Sandra to HRC and meet Kathy, and ask her how she feels about the closing
and moving away from her home and friends.  When you meet Kathy you will realize that she cannot
understand the simplest words or phrases and that she cannot talk.

Susan Pupatello stated in her Press announcement, that now they can make decisions for themselves and
will be in the community closer to families and friends. They have been at HRC for over thirty years and more
for others.  This is their home and this is were their friends are located.

Please except my invitation to meet Kathy and restore our faith in the political process.  Sandra Pupatello
has continually declined several invitations and refers to Kathy's home as an impersonal institution.  If you
were to visit you would see that this place is a home where Kathy is active within the community of Orillia.
You would see what other MPP's have seen, that had the decency to visit.  They saw that this is a centre of
excellent care for the severely developmentally disabled.  They saw that this is a home with so many
programs and care supports in place that the community cannot come close to providing.  Please, don't be a
"Kobel" and ignore our concerns. People will die if this move takes place.  Visit our web-site

testimony from one of our members who's son was rescued from community living to HRC.
