Listing of Social Housing Buildings                                            By:  K-ran McBride

A brief note before going to the list:

A COMPLETE list of all social housing buildings which the government might think would be suitable for our relatives is
available at the below link. For those of you who don't know a lot about the difference between social housing and group
homes or residences in the developmental sector, I'll try to clarify.

The agencies within the developmental sector are seen as specializing in the job of housing people with developmental
disabilities. Programs and services, or some degree of staff expertise or experience working with this population, is part of
the environment of the residence.

We know there are no vacancies within the group home and residential cluster of the developmental sector, and that
there is a centralized wait list for these spaces.

Outside of this sector, is rent geared to income, or social housing in Toronto. These buildings also have long wait lists with
a central intake, but they are separate entities from group homes and residences provided within the DS (developmental
services) sector. Some of these buildings do accommodate tenants with special needs, and some are shared
accommodations that are geared towards people with physical or developmental disabilities. It is 100% reality that none
of the buildings listed would provide suitable accommodations for our relatives, but true to the community living
philosophy, the government may resort to some of these places to house our relatives, with a promise to us that the
supports will be coordinated and put in place. The reality is that my clients with severe or moderate developmental
challenges, are NOT managing very well in independent living arrangements. It's hard to find adequate services available
to make this type of plan work.

It is possible one of us might get a call suggesting a place on this list is where the government would like to move our
relatives.... It's good to know the difference between the two types of housing social and DS sector, so you watch for this.
After all, the government needs to find places fast to put our relatives..... It's important we cover our knowledge bases

This list is complete, as I went through the whole phone-book sized directory page by page.   Special needs housing
includes frail elderly seniors listings and wheelchair accessible buildings with staff on site. Reena, Christian Horizons, and
CLT provide services to tenants in some of these residences, so be especially aware of these ones

DO NOT CONTACT AGENCIES ON THE SOCIAL HOUSING LIST, TO INTERVIEW STAFF OR TO DEVELOP A
PROFILE.....UNLESS YOU ARE TOLD THAT ONE OF THESE RESIDENCES SEEMS A GOOD FIT FOR YOUR
RELATIVE. Consider this our B list for any cold calls.... It may be that if others are bumped out of DS residences to
make room for our relatives, that they will be the ones to end up in social housing.
