Election Issue is HRC

Since the beginning of our fight in 2004, the NDP has understood the need for the specialized care and
excellence our loved ones receive at Huronia Regional Centre.

Michael Prue, MPP Beaches - East York - NDP visited Orillia and our residents back in 2004.  He could not
believe his eyes as to the excellences and the facilities we have.  Michael knew first hand that we cannot close
this centre, and that more should exist for the more vulnerable.

It is 2007 and we are still fighting this closure.  The NDP - SImcoe North Riding, Andrew Hill understands the
excellence, the quality of care and the knowledge set of the staff at HRC.  With family that worked at HRC, and
growing up in Orillia, he understands first hand the wealth of experts, and a city who is not only familiar to the
needs of the developmentally disabled, but have built upon years of knowledge the best of services to the most
fragile of our province.

Whether HRC remains under the government or in the hands of a private sector, the bottom line, is that it is a
waste to throw out the most talented and knowledgeable in this sector.  And that is just what the Liberal
Government has done.

The PC party, holds a place for the Autistic plight, however, this party fails to acknowledge that Huronia
Regional Centre has expertise for Autistic adults, a knowledge set that they too are willing to throw out the
door.   A knowledge set that saved the life of an autistic son Jacques Gariepy.

Support the Simcoe North, NDP, and help them raise this as an election issue, not just for HRC but for the
many
200,000 families in Ontario, who still do not have the proper supports.
